Classic Video Game Monday: Dr. Mario

You know, there’s really not a whole lot to say about Dr. Mario except for the following:

1.) Most Addictive Puzzle Game Ever (okay, okay, maaaaybe second to Tetris Attack),

and 2.) Catchiest Music Ever. Ever.

P.S.: Cannot be unheard:

I? am Dr. Mario and I am saving lives
I look different in this game (I lost my hat, got a coat, doctor light, stethoscope)
I am Dr. Mario and I prescribe high fives
Laughter’s the best medicine so BWA HA HA HA! You fell down!
In the Mushroom Kingdom I’m the finest doc by far
I got my degree by watching House and Scrubs and E.R.
Brightly colored pills
They’ll cure all your ills
Just as long as you’ve got fever or the chills

  1. This game was sick and beat Tetris hands down.

My Mum and I would play the 2 Player Game, sometimes for hours, where the Winner had to increase their Level by 1 each time they won. Sometimes we’d start at Level 1 but usually we’d just skip the niceties and start around lvl 10 or so. It got so nobody else would play us unless we’d spot them 10 levels or so, and even then we’d usually still win 😀

The trick was to dump pieces on your opponent as fast as possible and as often as possible, and what the newbies didn’t realize was that having more Viruses on-screen meant you had a bigger chance of pulling off a Combo move with the first few Pills. If you could get in that first Combo move you could often queue up a second Combo while the blobs from your first attack sloooooowly fell down on your opponent’s side.

There was nothing nice about this game, but damned if it wasn’t a hell of a lot of fun 😀

  2. @ Capn John.

That sounds almost like a SC II strat O.o. “The trick was to dump pieces on your opponent as fast as possible and as often as possible” Zeal rush anyone? Back on topic though. This game was a trip to play. Difficult at first but fun once you mastered it.
