@ Ardprest - That sounds awesome, I love that watches can be passed down through generations like that.

@ Zekta - you are very welcome!

@ Ionutz - I did some research on this. It's a bit hard to tell but from what I can determine, the base movement on our particular watch comes from a mid-level Chinese company. It is an adaptation of a popular Swiss movement. It is also supposedly "finished" in a Swiss-owned factory but that is one of those marketing words that could mean almost anything.

It appears to be pretty well made so far, and I'm sticking to my story that it's a very good deal, although only time will tell.

@ Elsi - I would start by looking into repair shops online! Try this index: http://www.nawcc-index.net/RepairShopsT.php

Hi Pike,
After I read your last post on Watch, I seriously started considering buying one. I never got one myself(And I was pretty envy) others, since in my knowledge, those automatic watch a pretty luxury. But after reading your post I start looking into cheap alternatives... (After goblin's-training, one always look for cheap deals...)

And on the very day, when I was getting home, someone rush dash into me, and my quartz watch got's face was smashed.

I find myself a $10 USD watch (Directly order from china's sites, since I live in Hong Kong) and my beauty will got shipped really soon.

Thanks for this two post, so that I would get my very first two mechanical watch. And also the info on how to take care of them...
Love the site :)

I have a Rotary watch, a Swiss mechanical that my father bought for me for my 21st birthday back at the time when that was the age one became an adult in England. It still works but needs cleaning and servicing and the original pigskin strap is long gone to mulch. I have found a watchmaker in town who is qualified to work on it and am going to get it's 300,000 hour service done. I fully expect it to outlive me and be passed onto my grandson. I also have a small graveyard of quartz and digital watches that rarely made it into their second year.

However, the watch doesn't run and I have NO idea where to take it. I am afraid to take it to just any old place to get it fixed. HELP MEH!
Hi Pike, I wanted to ask you about your watch, I also bought a men's one exactly same model from same place as you.
I wanted to ask if you had any luck finding out more info about the movement of the watch. Does Sturhling make their own movements in their American factory, or do they import pre-made movements from China or how does it work?
And how can they keep the price of such a pretty well made product so low? (I know it's not as "well made" as a 1000 dollar watch, but it's not that far behind, while costing less than a tenth of the price)
Thanks.

I have a nice mechanical watch, but I only wear it a few times a year.

A: It's a Rolex. It's an expensive watch, and I don't want anything to happen to it via normal everyday wear and tear. (Like absent-mindedly smacking it on a doorframe or something.)

B: It belonged to my maternal grandfather. He died a year before I was conceived, and it's the only thing I have of his. And so I'd be doubly devastated if something were to happen to it.

But I do have a cheap digital watch that I use for everyday stuff. Not particularly fancy, but it gets the job done. And even though it still works perfectly, I've been thinking about getting a new one. I've had this one for years, and having something new on my wrist might be nice. >.>
